CII FELICITATES WORLD CUP STAR ASHISH NEHRA
In a function organised by apex industry association Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Indian cricketer Mr. Ashish Nehra was felicitated for his outstanding performance at the ICC World Cup 2003. The meeting was attended by several former cricketers and members of the industry.
Presenting a bouquet and a plaque to Mr. Nehra from CII's side, Mr. Uday Sodhi, COO - Net4India and member of the CII Sports Committee said that the corporate sector has a lot to learn from the current Indian squad on how to perform as a team. He added that this team had all the ammunition, talent and will-power to take the 'final step' at the next World Cup in 2007.
Mr. Ashish Nehra had an interactive session with the audience where he fielded various questions from the participants. Asked by one of the participants on what was Mr. Nehra's most memorable moment during the World Cup, he answered that though the match against England was a special personal landmark for him, the victory against arch-rival Pakistan was cherished by the entire team. When asked about what went wrong in the final, Mr. Nehra said that the pace-trio of India had a wonderful outing at the World Cup except for the final.
Congratulating Mr. Ashish Nehra and the entire cricket team, former cricketer Mr. Atul Wassan said that the public outrage after India's first loss to Australia was unfounded. Former cricketer Mr. Venkat Sundaram added that for nurturing new talents better sports facilities were required and for that the corporate sector could play a crucial role. Summing up the proceedings of the session, former cricket captain of India Mr. Bishen Singh Bedi said that the preparation for the 2007 World Cup must start from now on and for that equal importance has to be paid to domestic cricket from where fresh talents would emerge.
The function ended with the presentation ceremony and everyone joined to wish Mr. Ashish Nehra speedy recovery from the operation that he would undergo in the near future.
