It is recommended that before you begin you should have your
copy of the Windows '95 disks or CD-ROM at hand as you may be
asked for it. If your machine is not a stand-alone and is connected
to other machines around it, on a network, you should seek advice
from your systems administrator before continuing.
Setting up Dial-Up Networking
Making a Connection
Double click the My
Computer icon on the desktop
Double click the Dial-Up
Networking icon
Double click the Make
New Connection icon
Type Net4India
for the Name of the Computer you are dialling
The modem set up on your computer should already
be displayed. If it is not, then please consult your Windows
'95 documentation for further information on how to set up
a modem for use under Windows '95
Click Next
Do NOT enter anything in the box for area
code
Under Telephone Number type 172412
Click Next
Click Finish
Highlight the Net4India icon, and click the RIGHT mouse
button once to display a menu, and select Properties
Under the Phone Number section, make sure
that the Use Country Code and Area Code option is NOT checked
Select the Server Types
tab
The Type of Dial-up Server should be set
to PPP: Windows '95, WindowsNT 3.5, Internet
Under Advanced Options make sure that ONLY
Enable software compression is ticked.
Under Allowed Network Protocols make sure
that ONLY TCP/IP is ticked, remove the ticks from NetBEUI
and IPX/SPX
To check your Dial Up Networking configuration:

Double click My Computer
- Double click Dial Up Networking
- Right click on your Net4India icon
- Select Properties
- Ensure all details are as those described above.
Configuring TCP/IP
N.B. You should have your copy of Windows
'95 to hand when following these instructions
Click Start
Click Settings
and select Control Panel
Double click the Network
icon
The only components necessary to connect to Net4India are
:
If you have any other components installed, they may interfere
with your connection. If you have a network card installed
on your machine, you should not remove the components
associated with it from this window. If you are in doubt,
do not remove the component.
If you are missing any components, follow these steps:
All three components are manufactured by Microsoft, so
in the Select Network Client/Adapter/Protocol window, select
Microsoft from the left hand side, and the component you
require from the right hand side. Then click OK
Once you have the necessary components listed, highlight
TCP/IP and select Properties
From the tabs at the top, make sure that
IP Address is set to Obtain IP Address
Automatically
WINS Configuration is set to Disable
WINS
Gateway has no installed gateway (there are no numbers present)
DNS Configuration is set to Disable
DNS
Bindings has a tick next to Client
for Microsoft Networks only
Click OK
From the Networks Configuration screen select OK
The computer may build a driver information database, copy
some files, or request your Windows 95 CD. When copying files
you may see a message titled Version Conflict, saying that
the file you are copying is older than the file already in
your system, to which you should click Yes to keep thecurrent
version of the file. When the process is complete you will
see a message titled System Settings Changed, prompting you
to Restart the machine – to which you should click Yes. Once
your machine has rebooted, you are ready to connect.
Creating a Net4India icon on the Desktop
Once all the settings are complete, the task of dialling
into Net4India can be automated by creating an Net4India icon
on your Desktop. We recommend using the shortcut instead of
allowing your browsing software to dial for you, as you will
tend to make a more reliable connection.
Double click the My Computer Icon
Double click the Dial-Up Networking
icon
Highlight the Net4India icon, and click the RIGHT mouse
button once to display a menu
Select Create Shortcut, and
the following message will appear
"Windows cannot create a shortcut here.
Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop
instead?"
Click Yes to
this prompt
Simply double click the icon on your desktop to launch
the dialer. Enter your details and click Connect,
to connect.
