Infrastructure

The solid granite buildings of the college are sheltered under a canopy of trees. The Main Block houses the Principal's and Vice Principal's offices, Administrative Offices for the PUC and Degree courses, the Labs of various science departments, faculty rooms, Staff Club, Centre for Social Action, Auditorium, Book Stall and many class rooms. The grass carpeted quadrangle spreads aesthetic appeal and reflective mood to the process of teaching and learning. The annex building holds the main library, Electronics and Psychology Labs and the undergraduate Computer Centre. The new block houses various departments like Social Sciences, Managements and Computer Science. It also harbours BHM Quantity Kitchen, Bakery, Model Restaurant, MCA Labs, PG Library, Placement and Counseling Centres, Conference Hall, and Terrace Garden etc. The portico of this building stuns the visitors with its posh and classy architecture. The MCA, MBA and MTA faculty members have well furnished individual rooms with telephony facility.


Computerization

Christ College is perhaps the only college in the city where almost every thing is computerized. The admission procedures, selection of candidates, payment of fees etc., are coordinated by the Administrative Computer Office. The Office administrative staff executes most of their works through computers. On all the working days the hour to hour class wise attendance is fed into the database and the same is communicated to the parents from time to time along with the performance of the students in class and term tests. Every morning the students are informed through the monitor the names of the lecturers who are on leave. Parents have the facility to know the performance of the students and their attendance from the terminals at Principal and Vice Principal's offices. The DTP facility available at the college for all the faculty and association activities not only reduces the financial burden on the management but also increases the efficiency and productivity of the faculty members.

Attendance and Progress report of the student may be available on internet round the clock on www.christcollege.edu or www.christcollege.com with students register number as login name and different passwords provided to everyone.


Library


The college library has an excellence collection of 48452 books and 110 journals on all relevant subjects. These volumes include books for required reading, reference works in all the fields and periodicals. The main library has a good collection of audio and video tapes and a photocopier for the use of faculty and students. The computerized information on library facilitates the use of library with regard to the availability of books, journals and articles. The imposing main reading room in the library is an ideal setting for reading, reflection and serious study. Main library works from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm.

The Post Graduate library, which is in the new block, has many volumes on Computer Software, Information Technology, Management Studies, Sociology and Physics, It also has Internet facilities.


Computer Labs

In the Campus there are two Computer Labs, arguably the best and certainly the most modern among the colleges in Bangalore. The lab, which is at the basement of the library block with 35 systems, is primarily meant for undergraduate computer science students. The computing facility of the lab is utilized for all administrative works of the college. The centre offers diploma courses in computer in the morning and in the evening. In the new block there is a well-equipped computer lab with the state-of-the art technology. This lab too has network facility, connecting the latest Intel microprocessor based computers. The lab has 98 Pentium II / III, based nodes each with 32 / 64 MB RAM, 4 / 10 GB local hard disk, SVGA color monitors, connected to three Windows NT Servers (Pentium-III 128 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD) and one Linux Server.

Laser Printers, Inkjet Printers, Digitizer, LP 735 Data Projector, Scanner, Dot Matrix Printers and other peripherals are connected to the network.


Internet Facility

To integrate Information System Technology into the present curriculum, the college is one of the first educational institutions to boast its internet connectivity through Cisco Router with 64 KBPS Internet leased line connecting its students to the world and beyond. The faculty and the students are encouraged and allowed to surf the net free of cost. Moreover, nodes are provided in the library for the students to send and receive E-mail.


Career Guidance & Placement

Christ College is one of the pioneering institutions that provides career guidance and placement facilities to the undergraduate and postgraduate students. The office is dedicated to help the students assess their career interest, aptitude and provides them with an opportunity to meet and be interviewed by some of the prestigious firms in the city. It periodically organizes mock interviews, workshops, seminars and group discussions on relevant topics. The library facility offered by the centre gives the students a wide variety of information on higher studies both in India and abroad and career opportunities in various organizations.

The Centre establishes close contact with industrial and business houses through regular newsletters, placement brochures and personal contacts. The campus recruitment is held from January to March. Export-Import Bank, Usha International, Wipro, Taj Groups, BPL, BHL Software, Toyota Kirlosker, ITC, Mahindras, and Arthur Anderson are some of the organizations that have availed the service of our Placement centre.


Sports and Games

The sports and games facilities on the campus make the students attain physical growth and sportsman spirit. The college has separate courts for major games like basketball, football and hockey. Intra-college and inter-college matches and Sports Day give the students ample opportunities to develop their talent and skills.

Counseling Centre

The Counseling Centre helps all Christies in the holistic development of their personality by imparting right values and attributes towards oneself and to the society at large. In contemporary technological society education becomes more and more a critical factor in career possibilities. Problems in educational plans and performance of many students affect their career development. The Counseling centre facilitates in the development of remedial systems for students whose study skills and other motivational factors have kept them away from achieving their potential. Students can approach the counselor who can handles every student with utmost care and concern. The centre also concentrates on students who do not perform well in their exams and are irregular for the classes. These students along with their parents are called to the Centre for a meaningful discussion with the Counselor to sort out problems and find remedies.

The Counselor is available at the Centre from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm


Scholarship and Financial Aid

The college management is committed to identify all financial resources and make them available to the deserving students of all categories. The scholarships offered by the management are primarily aimed at promoting quality education among the students. Students of the final year degree with brilliant academic records, having secured first class in the university exams are eligible to apply for the Merit Scholarships. Special Financial aid is offered to the students of economically backward class, having a good academic record. Students who excel in sports, extra curricular and co-curricular activities are offered scholarships at different levels. The students who would like to avail any of these scholarships must have at least three references of the faculty.


Centre For Social Action

The main objective of the Centre is to create social consciousness among students, to enable them to open their eyes to the hard realties of life situations, to provide them with ample opportunities to work for the less privileged sections of the society and involve themselves in the social issues of the society. The centre incorporates various programmes on community development. It facilitates the involvement of students in all the activities and instills in them a taste for social work. It also coordinates NSS work of the college unit, VIKAS-a community development project, conceived and implemented by the NSS unit of the college and APSA-Association for Promotion Social Action and Child Sponsorship Programme. The Child Sponsorship Programme intends to provide financial assistance to the less fortunate children, to meet their educational, health and nutritional needs. Apart from providing financial aid for the education, the centre ensures all support in the overall development of the child.

The sponsorship costs Rs.1750 or US $75 per year per child. An individual/organization can become a complete sponsor (10 years) for a single child with a one-time contribution of Rs.15000 or US $600. Cheque / DD may be drawn in favor of THE PRINCIPAL, CHRIST COLLEGE, BANGALORE-560 029. The sponsors will have the benefit of tax exemption under 80G of Indian Income Tax Act. They will also receive personal details and photographs of the sponsored child and its family. The centre makes arrangements for the visit of the sponsors to the sponsored child and its family.


Centre For Social Research

Falling in line with our strategic plan for quality education and to make effective contribution to the society, the college established the Centre for Social Research in 1999. The centre extends the functioning of the college and works in coordination with the Postgraduate Department of Sociology. The centre, conceived as an attempt to go beyond traditional academic structures, provides more space for social research and evaluation studies. It carries out fundamental and policy oriented research studies on social and cultural phenomenon of contemporary relevance. It also attempts to facilitate greater intellectual exchange among social scientists, development activists and government functionaries. The centre creates opportunities for the postgraduate students of sociology to be actively involved in research projects through assistantships.

Prayer Hall

In our ardent desire towards holistic development of individuals, the college provides a serene and calm atmosphere to those who wish to spend some time in silence, reflection and prayer. The prayer hall, which is in the second floor, new block, is elegantly designed and wears a heavenly look to raise the mind and heart of a person.

Terrace Garden, which is on the top floor of the second block useful for extra curricular activities.


Alumni Association

Having realized the fact that the old students are still the life of an educational institution, the college has established Christ College Alumni Association since its inception. However it has taken concrete form and shape over the last few years and has seen significant growth. Many batches of old students often come back to the campus for reminiscence whenever nostalgia impelled them to do so. The Association supports academic and non-academic activities of the college. It attempts to lend a helping hand through placement services and enables the students to find suitable jobs. Every year the association organizes two mega events. The first one being the Family Get-together of the Alumni, 0n 26th January (public holiday) and the other, the General Body Meet, on the third Sunday of October, wherein the elections are held for the office bearers. Besides this the Association organizes social welfare activities for the street children, slums and villages. It plans to institute scholarship for deserving students of all sections of the society in the campus. The Association holds regular functions to honour the senior/retired staff/faculties/Principals whom the management committee decides.


Parking

Since the number of students commuting to college on two wheelers and four wheelers have increased, around 5000 sqft. of space has been allotted for parking of the two wheelers with good security. Although the students are discouraged to come by four wheelers, nevertheless they too are accommodated within the available space with pass and security restrictions.


Canteen and Kiosk

The college provides a healthy environment in the canteen and makes sure that quality food is served at reasonable price. The Kiosk helps the students refresh themselves with snacks during short break.
